Mayowood Stone Barn Wedding | Rochester, MN | Brittany + Ethan

K. Mayowood Stone Barn is my new favorite venue. There were countless places to take photos at Mayowood, so many stunning stone and white buildings, and beautiful grounds. I am so beyond grateful to have been apart of Brittany and Ethan’s wedding day and hang out with their wonderful families and crazy (in a good way) wedding party! My amazing associate Olivia saved the day by second shooting for me as my original second shooter got Covid the day before!

We started the day capturing candids of the guys and girls getting ready, the florals for the day, made by the incredible Kelly, at MAVEN, and walked the grounds! I loved Brittany’s simple and elegant dress from a&bé Bridal. The stone buildings were a perfect backdrop to this wedding and mixed so well with the dusty rose and blue theme. MAVEN’s flowers were so pretty!! It had the perfect balance of roses, thistles, and butterfly ranunculus.

This was a day full of laughter, tears, and lots of hugs. Brittany wanted to do a first look with her girls, dad, and Ethan. Her dad was ready to go right on time and kept asking when it was his turn to see Brittany — so sweet. Ethan and Brittany’s first look was so beautiful. They read notes from each other before turning around and seeing each other for the first time.

The joke of the day was regarding “clumping”. No one knew what it meant to “clump”, but by the end of the day everyone knew how to clump. And they got pretty good at it! It was a roughty fun bunch of humans. Westin, one of the groomsmen kept wanting to touch the other guys, so I tried a new pose… — touch someone else inappropriately. It was a hit haha. Brittany’s girl gang consisted of her 3 sisters and friend, it was so cute watching them all be together. && The families was so kind, they even gave us Jimmy John’s. It was much needed and AMAZING!

Before the ceremony, Brittany and Ethan FaceTimed her grandma and grandpa since they were unable to make it to the wedding due to covid. Brittany’s grandma kept saying how beatiful Brittany looked and said she needed to “go get grandpa” because he was going to the bathroom. She proceeded to open the bathroom door and “just show his face”. — One of the best memories of the day haha.

Ceremony Time. When I walked up to the ceremony spot, the first thing I noticed was the absolutely amazing and majestic tree. It had limbs curving and bending down almost to the ground. The sun was shining through the branches, and it made me stop in awe at the beauty of it all. You could hear laugher and chatting from the guests as the wedding party made their way to their spots walking to lots of Ed Sheeren songs. The pastor came up to Olivia and I before the ceremony started and told us we can go wherever we need to go to capture these moments. HE WAS AWESOME!!! He even had the couple kiss a second time so we could get another photo.

After the ceremony the wedding party did a champagne shot and it was awesome, except… they kind of sprayed some of the bridesmaids accidentally. :) Luckily they dried pretty quickly!

Reception — Something cool/different at their wedding reception was that they incorporated driftwood pieces into their garlands. I thought it was such a cool way to incorporate nature into a very elegant wedding.

In my day to day life I don’t usually want bread, but on wedding days that is all I could think about. When do I get the bread?! The bun at Brittany and Ethan’s wedding was freakin delish!! and the salad?!?! ugh soo good!!

Sunset photos — as always — were a dream.

Speeches were super cute as well. The three sisters gave advice to Ethan, and told stories about Brittany, and that she is an amazing human who is loves to control things and write to-do lists, which I can absolutely relate to so I feel you girl!!

Ethan’s dad said in his speech, You can spend your marriage being happy, or your whole marriage being right, and he has been happy for the past 25 years. Made the whole room roar with laughter.

We finished the night with dances and a sparkler exit :)

I would say the word Elegant is the best way to describe this wedding and this day and this couple.

Fav Memory — One of my favorite memories of the day was Ethan fluffing and taking care of Brittany’s dress. I lost count of how many times we moved spots, and Ethan bent down to make sure her dress looked perfect. Out was so simple, but so sweet.

I left with feelings of joy and happiness. It was such a good day and I am so grateful to be a wedding photographer.
